Ariad Pharmaceuticals (January)

After spending some time deciding between two companies, Ariad Pharmaceuticals and Brasil Telecom, I finally made a decision. I had been observing the grow of these two companies as well as reading the latest news about them on regular basis. They were both pretty interesting to look at because of their lower price and potential increase in value. Eventually, I decided to put the rest of my money, which was about $200 into Ariad Pharmaceuticals.

Even though Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. is relatively a small company, it is very well-known for their production of cancer drugs. The value of ARIA stocks started to rapidly decrease at the beginning of October. During the next few months, the price kept being very low.

I believe that if I buy ARIA now, I will make lots of profit out of in the future since it finally started to rise in value. Plus, as a pharmaceutical company, there is always some progress in production of drugs. Therefore, I assume investing the rest of my money into ARIA will be successful!

Updates (December)

I am happy to say that stocks of both companies I invested money in are doing very well. To be more specific, value of Nokia raised from $6.70 a share to $7.90 and keeps moving up and down in the range of $7.80 to $8.10. Increase in percentage is approximately around 18% which is more than I expected. Therefore, the profit I have gotten from Nokia is around $73.3. Fortunately, Micron has been doing very well too. I purchase Micron for $19.54 a share and it had successfully increased to $21.79 a share. Therefore, my current gain from Micron is around $38. To conclude, my overall profit is $110.7 which is very good. Hopefully, stocks of both Nokia and Micron will keep increasing in value. Now, my next step is to make my last purchase. Wish me luck!

Micron (November)

Following my plan, I made my second purchase in the end of November. This time I decided to invest into Micron, which is one of the very successful software companies. Micron Technology originated in the U.S. and it most well-known for their semiconductor devices.

Micron Technology:

Amount Available: $600 (however, I was willing to spend only around 400 dollars on this company)
Current Price of Micron stocks: $18.27
Price ranger year-to-date: $17.90 - $18.28
P/E ration: $19.24
Number of Shares willing to buy: 20 shares
Amount Spent on Micron: approximately $365
Justification for Purchase: The main reason why I decided to purchase Micron Technology is, it is not only a great corporation that provides high quality technology and makes improvements, but there is also a speculation that their stocks will highly increase in value. Stocks of Micron had been decreasing for the last year, but now their value started to finally rise.

Nokia (October)

After carefully reading news and doing some research on regular basis, I decided to purchase NOKIA Corporation.

Information about NOKIA:

Stock Sector: technology
What They Produce: Nokia is a world leading mobile phone supplier. Their main product is cell-phones.

The Current Price: $6.70 per stock
The P/E ration:unknown
The Percent Change:  0.30%
Number Of Shares (I am planning to buy): 60
The Amount Of  Budget (I need in order to buy 60 stocks): $402
Reason:  Nokia plans to use Microsoft's mobile software as its primary smart phone OS. Therefore, new products of high quality are expected, which means stocks for Nokia are more likely to increase in value.

My Investment Plan (September)

First of all, each student or, in other words, future investor in my class was given a budget of 1,000$, which was supposed to be used for purchasing the stocks. Since I am a careful person, instead of putting all my money into one company, I decided to divide the budget my school, QSIB, gave me between three different companies. I did not want to risk losing 1,000$ just because of one unfortunate decision. However, marketing and investing is all about speculation and even though I split money, there is still a chance that I will not make any profit.
I am planning to purchase my first stock in the middle of October depending on the economic situation. My second stock should be purchased by the beginning of November and the third one by the end of December.
It is important to say that I am not only allowed to invest money into different companies,  but also I am able to sell my stocks during the 9 months period. This might be very essential as it might help me maintain the revenue and later, maybe, the profit.
